Sentierone / Chiostro di Santa Marta / Piazza Dante
Native herbaceous perennial found in alpine woodlands, with characteristic fan-shaped leaflets, whose dark purple flowers are borne on a long flexuous peduncle in distinctive clusters of 2 – 7.
The genus name Aquilegia would appear to derive from the Latin “aquam legere” – meaning to collect water – or from “aquilegium” – cistern – referring to the capacity of the plant’s leaves to retain dew and rainwater.
