From the ancient meadow where the city fair was held to the modern Centro Piacentiniano - a walk in the company of 26 historical figures connected with the Sentierone.
Sentierone / Chiostro di Santa Marta / Piazza Dante
At just twenty-six years of age and yet to complete his degree, Marcello Piacentini won a competition to design the new Bergamo city centre. Key factors in his successful entry, entitled “Panorama”, were the decision to limit the height of the new buildings and the consideration given to the view of the Upper Town. Mere months after Piacentini’s win, new regulations safeguarding the landscape and historically and architecturally significant views were passed into Italian law.
